Disposable diapers in Armenia are very expensive. In addition to cost, government allocations for diaper expenses are very low and do not adequately control for the diaper needs of the children. While SOAR firmly believes that the Armenian government should be exclusively responsible for the cost of baby supplies in the state orphanages, we have genuine concern for hygiene and the children’s comfort. To address these issues, the Diaper Fund was launched in October 2014 to provide diaper subsidies to Yerevan’s Children Home (formerly Nork Orphanage) and Mari Izmirlyan Orphanages. Diaper purchases are made by SOAR’s Executive Director, Hripsime Muradyan, and hand-delivered to each orphanage.
